Designers who move from consumer apps to healthcare products routinely underestimate how different the constraints are. Users are anxious, in pain, or making consequential decisions. Errors have real consequences. Compliance is not optional.

This course teaches you to design correctly for that environment.

Chapter 1: The Clinical Context (60 min)

• Who uses healthcare products and in what conditions
• Cognitive load in clinical settings vs. consumer contexts
• Error severity and the design responsibility that follows
• Overview of regulatory landscape (HIPAA, FDA, CE marking)

Chapter 2: Information Architecture for Health Data (90 min)

• Prioritizing urgent vs. routine information
• Displaying lab results, vitals, and medication data clearly
• Safe and unsafe ways to visualize health metrics
• Patient record navigation patterns

Chapter 3: Accessibility in Clinical UX (90 min)

• WCAG 2.1 AA in practice for healthcare interfaces
• Designing for aging users and low vision
• Large-touch-target conventions in clinical apps
• Color and contrast when users are under stress

Chapter 4: Privacy-Conscious UI Design (75 min)

• What HIPAA requires at the UI level (not just the backend)
• Minimizing visible PHI in shared-screen environments
• Consent and disclosure UI patterns
• Notification design with PHI constraints

Chapter 5: Form Design for High-Stakes Input (75 min)

• Medication dosage entry: the highest-risk form field in existence
• Error prevention vs. error recovery in clinical forms
• Confirmation dialogs that actually work
• Usability testing with clinical users
